Last sunset of the season from Cape Royal Grand Canyon

Sunset from Cape Royal North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona

Knowing the road would be closed the next day I rushed out after work to experience and photograph the last sunset of the season from Cape Royal, a most excellent viewpoint of Grand Canyon from the North Rim.

Not even taking time to change clothes, I threw a pink top on with my green uniform pants.

Turned out not to be the best disguise as I’d sent several visitors out there ahead of me so they knew I am a Ranger.

No matter, this sunset put on a Grand show for everyone.

And I hung out to the very end.

Yes, it’s a bummer that visitors and employees will not be able to drive to this overlook, but then roads do have to be repaved once in a while.  Plus there are several other viewpoints still accessible before the road closure like Point Imperial, Vista Encantada and Roosevelt Point where the road block is set.

Breathtaking! I love how some sunset skies start out gorgeous, and then just keep outdoing themselves – and this is definitely a perfect example of it! The clouds and colors steal the show, but I also love the shapes and shades of blue and violet in the canyon landscape below. So beautiful – thank you for sharing such special photos of such a special place!
